Biography John Watson received his Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Maryland in 2001. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture, with honors, from Webster University, St. Louis in 1997. John is represented by Philip Slein Gallery, St. Louis and Hemphill Fine Arts, Washington DC, and his work has been exhibited in numerous venues including: Hemphill, Washington, DC; Laumier Scultpture Park, St. Louis, MO; Memphis Brooks Museum, Memphis, TN; Philip Slein Gallery, St. Louis; and the Savannah Gallery, Atlanta, GA. Working primarily with reclaimed wood, Watson creates sculptures that are architectural in reference. The cast-offs of trade and industry or the discarded gems from remodeling projects are collected and repurposed into objects and installations. Watson, born in Indianapolis, IN, currently lives and works in St. Louis, Missouri, where he teaches sculpture in the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts at Webster University. |
